Carpet Tiles

Those who are thinking about installing new carpeting in their homes should consider a relatively new development in carpet technology, Carpet Tiles.

Carpet Tiles, (also known as Modular Carpeting) work over wood, cement, linoleum and vinyl.

Carpeting in tile form uses a variety of fibers including pricey wool or less expensive olefin, nylon or fiber blends.

One of the main advantages of carpet tiles is that you can actually lay the carpet yourself, thereby saving money. Carpet tiles adhere to the floor using either a peel-off adhesive process or a glue-less 'traction' method. Carpet tiles using the glueless system will usually have a quality carpet pad already attached.  Heavier tiles do not usually need to be stuck down except when installed in areas where chairs on rollers, etc. are used. It is essential that carpet tiles are laid on a clean, dry, level surface. High quality carpet tiles can be easily cut with a utility knife with no unraveling.

A second advantage of  using carpet tiles is that individual tiles can be replaced, instead of replacing the entire carpet. This is especially valuable if your home has high traffic areas, or small children or pets.

Advantage #3 is that carpet tiles let you be creative in ways that conventional carpeting would never allow. Create checkerboard patterns or other unique designs in your carpet, or even use them or walls or other surfaces. Your imagination is the limit.

Carpet tiles range in price from about .60/sq. ft. for factory seconds or cheaper brands to 3.50/sq. ft. or more for premium quality brands and styles. Manufacturers include Bretlin, Milliken, Mohawk, Patcraft, and others.

In summary, carpet tiles are a fun & unique way to decorate your floors. They are easy to fit, easy to clean, replaceable to compensate for wear & tear, and extremely durable.
