           Types of Hardwood Floor Finishes


Oil Based Urethanes
Are a common, easily applied finish. A polyurethane based product that will dry in about 8 hrs, it generally yellows with age.


Moisture-cured Urethane
s
Are more moisture & wear resistant than most other finishes. They come in gloss or satin, & yellowing & non-yellowing finishes. Application is best left to floorcare professionals..

Penetrating Waxes and Stains
Seep into the wood and harden it. forming a protective seal. Wax provides a scratch resistant sheen that can be maintained with additional spot applications. Wax finish is generally applied more frequently than surface finishes. Only solvent-based (not waterbased) waxes, buffing paste or cleaning products specially made for wood floors should be used.

 

Acid- Urethane
Dries fast and clear. It should be applied by expert wood flooring professionals.
 

Water-based Urethanes
Dry by water evaporation. Their finish is clear and nonyellowing. They have a milder smell than oil modified finish and will dry in a few hours.
 

Alumiunum Oxide Finishes
 Are the newest wood floor finishes offering a long-lasting, durable coating. These finishes are popular with the major pre-finished wood floor manufacturers.
